  1. How to decide which Executive Coaching Certification to go for in India?

Here are a few facts that a person can consider while deciding which Executive Coaching Certification to go for.
*Executive Coaching is primarily where a coach is going to coach (as per the industry trend) top executives (CEO, CFO, Vice Presidents, etc.) of an organization, and the expectations of stakeholders will be that the executives get better at what they are currently doing and facilitate their own resources to get more results/outcomes for themselves from an organization’s perspective.
*As an Executive Coach your stakeholder might be a person (Managing Director, Board, Department Heads etc.) who wants their top leaders to get coached as per the organization’s norms and as per HR policies, to bring an Executive Coach to help top leaders to enhance their productivity.

Considering various aspects, particularly how an Executive Coach gets selected by corporates is dependent on the corporate experience of the Coach. Even though corporate experience has nothing to do with coaching, the current market trend is to have a Senior Executive from a corporate job become an Executive Coach at the latter part of his/her career.

Another important factor to consider, is what Coaching education the Executive Coach has.  Here, a brand (like International Coaching Federation – ICF, International Association of Coaching – IAC, Tony Robbins, Richard Bandler etc.) comes in handy.  The current Market trend is that you need to have attended a coaching program which is approved by ICF, while you don’t need to be an ICF Coach – these are two different things.

The first option is a cheaper option if a person wants to attend an ICF approved Coaching program vis-à-vis ICF Coach Program. Many coaching schools won’t tell you the real difference between an ICF Coach Program (a program designed to make one an ICF certified coach) and an ICF approved Coaching Program. In an ICF approved Coaching Program, ICF approves the Coaching content and provides Coach training providers (under the guidance of Certified ICF Coaches, and ICF Mentor Coaches) an approval to run various courses approved by ICF.

  1. How is an Executive Coaching Career different from a Life Coaching Career?

What is the common thread between all Chocolates? Coco as the main ingredient, and then it is all about different recipes, and different packaging. Similarly, all forms of Coaching: be it Executive Coaching, Life Coaching, Business Coaching – will have a common thread in terms of coaching ethics: what to do as a coach, and what not to do as a coach, methodologies, etc.

Executive Coaching, is primarily for Leaders in an organization – to enhance their performance.

Life Coaching, is for anybody who wants to get better in what they are doing in life, in different areas: financially, health, relationships, professional, etc.

Business Coaching, is for corporates to increase performance of team members.

Entrepreneur Coaching is where, as a Coach a person is working with Start-ups/Entrepreneurs to get better business results.

Now, whether a person calls himself an Executive Coach/Business Coach/Life Coach is dependent on which industry segment he/she wants to work in as a coach and build his/her business.

  1. Is there an ICF approved executive coaching certification in India, which uses NLP as a Coaching methodology, and what are the benefits of NLP based Coaching over other methodologies?

NLP based coaching programs give an additional certificate (NLP Practitioner or NLP Master Practitioner) to the participants, along with a Coach Certificate, depending on the duration of the course. Major benefits of NLP as a coaching methodology is the Powerful concepts and flexibility that NLP provides in terms of coverage (Coaching tools for Coaches).
