ICF Coaching is the gold standard in coaching. Anyone pursuing a career as a Certified Life Coach, Business Coach, Career Coach, Leadership Coach, or Executive Coach should pursue ICF certification - ICF Certified Coaches are the most well-recognized in the coaching community.
ICF ACC is the first level of accreditation and opens up numerous corporate coaching opportunities. Certification at ICF ACC or ICF PCC validates your coaching skills and builds trust, brand, and recognition in the market.
The best ICF accredited programs help participants grasp the difference between Life, Business, Executive, and Wellness Coaching, so you can choose and grow within a coaching niche.
The International Coaching Federation (ICF) is the world' s largest organization dedicated to coaching and coaches, promoting the profession by establishing high standards, providing independent certification, and building a global network of qualified coaches.
ICF offers a globally recognized, independent credentialing program for coaches. Professional coaches who have met rigorous academic and experience standards and demonstrated a thorough comprehension of coaching skills are awarded ICF Credentials.
Coach-specific training programs are also accredited by the ICF. Accredited programs go through a rigorous review process and must show that their curriculum fits with the ICF Core Competencies and Code of Ethics.
ICF defines coaching as partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. The process of coaching often unlocks previously untapped sources of imagination, productivity and leadership.
The ICF offers three levels of credentialing based on coaching hours:
To earn a credential you must complete the required hours of coach-specific training from an ICF accredited program and 10 hours with a Mentor Coach. ACC candidates take the ICF ACC Credential Exam; PCC and MCC candidates take the ICF Credentialing Exam - both are proctored, computer-based exams based on the ICF Core Competencies and Code of Ethics.
Your ICF credential is valid for three years; to renew it, you must complete 10 hours of Mentor Coaching and 40 hours of continuing education.
The ICF Core Competencies support a shared understanding of the skills and approaches used in today's coaching profession, and form the foundation of the Coach Knowledge Assessment (CKA). They' re grouped into four domains - none weighted above another - all core and critical for any competent coach to demonstrate.
ICF Credential-holders are part of a self-regulating group of elite coaches who provide accountability to clients and the coaching profession as a whole - completing rigorous education and practice requirements.
Coaching is one of the fastest-growing professions, and is currently unregulated - anyone can call themselves a coach. An ICF credential sets you apart and shows your commitment to your own professional development.
It can also help you charge higher rates, attract more serious clients, secure corporate contracts, and increase referrals and client satisfaction.
Once a participant finishes the required ICF training hours, mentoring, and coaching experience, they file an application with ICF. Once approved, ACC candidates take the ICF ACC Credential Exam, while PCC and MCC candidates take the ICF Credentialing Exam - both proctored, computer-based exams assessing understanding of the ICF definition of coaching, Core Competencies, and Code of Ethics.
